My freak flag always flies
That's right. I wish to announce that I am going to marry this tree:

O.K. So maybe not really. But it does prove I'm one of those bleeding-heart liberal hippie tree-hugger types, so you should still be very afraid. I mean, we're the folks who keep insisting on liberty and justice for ALL. It just doesn't get any more subversive than that.

The main thing that strikes me about this photo--besides the fact that I am a giant freak--is that I really have lost weight. I still have a fat stomach, but not nearly as fat as it used to be. I'm working on the washboard abs, mmmmkay? Right after I get done hugging trees and saving the world from renegade Shrubberies and all that. [info]jemby took this picture as we were walking back to her car from the May Day parade and festival at Powderhorn Park.

Wanna see more May Day pictures? Of course you do:

Here I am with teh infamoose [info]jemby, who likes to take pictures of herself as well as of everyone else who will stand still long enough to be captured by her camera:

And here I am with a tree growing out of my head:

This was taken before I hugged the other tree, so it is not a form of tree-induced pregnancy. FYI. But as you can see, Powderhorn Park is a beautiful place to hang out on a sunny day! It is truly a magical place, so if you visit Minneapolis, you must go there, if you can--but only during the day. As with most city parks, it's not a good place to visit at night. :-(

And here's yet another picture of me, because Jenny just can't stop herself once she gets a camera in her hands:

Jenny said this was a really good profile photo of me. I think I look a bit stupid. Or maybe pensive. Anyway, it's obvious I'm breathing.

Finally, in case anyone was unclear on the concept, here's a timely FYI for Memorial Day Weekend:

War kills. How 'bout that. And here I was told that war Protects Our Freedoms and Serves Our Country and Gives Me The Power To Protest War. As the last living French veteran of WWI said, "War is really stupid."

Jenny took lots more photos of the parade, but I'll just send you to her journal if and when she gets around to posting them.

That last pic is brilliant. And the words so true...

(ALL the pics are terrific incidentally, it's just that the last one really resonated.)

Thanks

Yes, it is. Jenny was lucky to get such a good image of that poster. I'm glad you singled it out. All of the others are just Jenny run amok taking pictures of her Older Sister. :-D But that poster is, indeed, powerful. I get tired of the bullshit mythologization of war, and it's always wonderful to hear from others (like you) who resonate with that!

Believe it! Bit of an oldie at this anti-war stuff. Aldermaston & CND marches age 15, Greenham peace camp etc...

And nothing seems to change - Goddess save us all, eh?

THE END OF MARRIAGE IS IMMINENT

I AM ASHAMED OF MY STATE

...yeah. Right. I'm ashamed we didn't do this sooner, I mean.

Heh. At least your state is making strides in the right direction. My state, which once upon a time was considered "progressive," keeps re-introducing a bill to add the "one man, one woman" definition of marriage to the Minnesota Constitution. AND, I believe it was in the last session, debating some legislation re: language recognizing committed relationships in something or other, someone in the MN House of Representatives actually brought up the tired old saw, "If we broaden the definition of 'committed relationship,' will someone want to include their dog in that definition?" Rep. Karen Clark, a lesbian in a very long-term relationship, was understandably quite offended. The dude backtracked, but I don't think he actually apologized to her.

So don't be too ashamed. Your state's making progress, at least.

A constitutional amendment has made it to the ballot, which if passed would make this null -- the decision of the court was "this is unconstitutional", well, so just change the constitution! *eyeroll* I only hope that gets voted down, because it's much harder to strike amendements than it is to simply defeat propositions.
